Please keep the family of our beloved brother, Reverend Jerome LeDoux, S.V.D., in your prayers as he transitioned to be with our Heavenly father on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the age of 88.
A faithful and dedicated priest of the Society of the Divine Word for the past sixty-one years, Reverend LeDoux, a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana joined Council 89 - Our Mother of Mercy in 2009.
He entered St. Augustine Minor Seminary in 1943 at the age of 13, following the footsteps of both an older brother and a cousin who went on to become one of the first African-American bishops in the United States. Rev. LeDoux was ordained to the priesthood in May of 1957 and studied in Rome where he earned a Master's Degree in Theology and a Doctoral Degree in Church Law in 1961. From 1961 - 1967, Rev. LeDoux taught Moral Theology and Church Law at St. Augustine Major Seminary - the first Black Chaplain to hold this position. He continued teaching Theology at Xavier University of Louisiana from 1969 - 1980 and served in four parishes before his retirement: St. Martin De Porres in Prairie View, Texas (1981 - 1984), St. Paul the Apostle in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1984 - 1988), St. Augustine in New Orleans, Louisiana (1990 - 2006), and Our Mother of Mercy in Fort Worth, Texas (2006 - 2015).
