Remembering Bishop Ricard

The Knights of Peter Claver join the Josephite community and Catholics across the nation in mourning the passing of the Most Reverend John H. Ricard, SSJ, whose extraordinary life and ministry leave an enduring legacy of faith, leadership, and service.

We are deeply grateful for his steadfast leadership as Superior General of the Josephites and for his unwavering commitment to uplifting Black Catholic communities. Bishop Ricard’s connection to the Knights of Peter Claver reflected a shared mission rooted in faith, justice, and empowerment. Through his collaboration, guidance, and support, he strengthened the bond between our organizations and inspired countless members to live lives of purpose and service.

Bishop Ricard’s life was marked by historic firsts and remarkable accomplishments, creating pathways for generations to follow. His voice was one of moral clarity, compassion, and courage - always advocating for dignity, equity, and the spiritual growth of God’s people.

As we reflect on his legacy, we celebrate a life well lived in faithful service to the Church and humanity. We lift up his family, the Josephite community, and all who loved him in prayer, asking God to grant them comfort and peace. May his example continue to guide us in building a more just and loving world.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
